About me

I’m Ruth and I’m from Southern Scotland.

At the age of 20, while finishing university, I landed my dream graduate program and spent 3 years in Qatar. I then continued with the same company, working in Melbourne, Australia for a few more years.

After six years in the corporate world, I decided to pursue self-employment online in 2017. Since then, I’ve lived in various places like New Zealand, Mexico, and most recently Japan.

Since 2020, I’ve been creating travel content, and during my time in Japan, I was part of two Japanese-speaking YouTube channels. I documented two campervan conversion projects and extensively explored Japan by van, uncovering lesser-known, off-the-beaten-path destinations.

I recently returned to Scotland after 12 years away and purchased a campervan which I named Ernie. Now, I’m rediscovering my home country of Scotland and sharing my adventures on my “Ruth Aisling” social media channels.

A bit more about me:

  • I like learning other languages and I can speak Japanese and Spanish in addition to English.
  • Hiking, cooking, nature photography and relaxing in natural hot springs are some of my favourite hobbies.
  • After visiting Islay, I’ve become a huge fan of Scottish whisky and really enjoy peated whiskies.
  • I’m very interested in alternative living, be it tiny homes, eco houses, off-grid living, van life, or boat life. My future dream is to live in the countryside and grow a lot of my own vegetables.
  • I love travelling and have been to around 40 countries, mostly within the Middle East and Asia. Some of my favourite countries include Lebanon, Japan and New Zealand.
